Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
The growing situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the UK is presenting unprecedented challenges for individuals, companies and organisations alike. As a responsible organisation, the IAQM’s primary concern is for the safety of its attendees, members, speakers, exhibitors and staff. We are therefore following the advice of the UK Government to ‘avoid social contact with others and stop non-essential travel to fight Coronavirus’ and as a result, all face-to-face events and workshops for the next few weeks will be postponed.
Where possible we will deliver events and workshops via online platforms. Please refer to the individual event page for further details around each of our events.
We will honour all bookings made for events to date and transfer these to the new event date, details of which will be circulated to you in due course.
We thank you for your support during this time.

Webinar: Integrating Tools for Air Pollution Assessment (ITAPA) – Learning from the Dutch Approach
July 9 @ 12:30 pm - 1:15 pm
Susan Zappala, Joint Nature Conservation Committee and Mark Wilmot, Wing on behalf of the RIVM (Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment).
Ecological assessment of air pollution is under increasing scrutiny due to caselaw challenge and UK policy developments. In the Netherlands, a similar challenge was tackled through their Integrated Approach to Nitrogen (PAS). With the advent of the Dutch Nitrogen Judgment, the PAS is being revised. However, the AERIUS suite of tools developed to implement the PAS remain useful. Through the ITAPA project, JNCC is helping the UK explore how AERIUS can help address air pollution effects on ecosystems and to recognise the benefit from emission reductions at local scale. Join us to learn about AERIUS and possible UK benefits.
Our speakersMark Wilmot is an Earth Scientist fascinated by all the different views one can have on our natural environment. He has developed the ground work for the Dutch Integrated Approach to Nitrogen (PAS) and the National Air Quality Cooperation Programme in the Netherlands.
Working with several Ministries and provinces, he combines policy making, scientific research and IT development to create web applications such as AERIUS. AERIUS has reduced the complexity of environmental regulation while improving quality in permitting and policy evaluation as recognised by the European Commission.
Susan Zappala is a Chartered Environmentalist in the Institute for Environmental Management and Assessment currently seconded as Senior Air Pollution Adviser at the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC). JNCC is the public body that advises the UK Government and devolved administrations on UK-wide and international nature conservation.
As in her role as Senior Specialist for Air Pollution and Ecotoxicology at Natural England, Susan is the government’s adviser for air pollution effects on ecosystems. Susan coordinates the Inter-agency Air Pollution Group and the UK Country Nature Conservation Body input to the Air Pollution Information System.
