IAQM Forum: Implications of the world’s first air pollution death certificate
22 Jun, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Join us for the next IAQM Forum and hear from experts involved in the landmark inquest which resulted in air pollution being added to a death certificate for the first time. Our forums provide a platform for professionals to join us in discussion around topical challenges and developments from across the air quality sector.
Ella Adboo Kissi-Debrah tragically died at the age of 9 in 2013. Following a long campaign for her inquest to be re-opened, led by her mother, a second inquest was held in December 2020. The central issue was whether air pollution had caused Ella’s asthma and exacerbated her symptoms. The Coroner concluded that air pollution at levels above the WHO guidelines was a significant contributory factor in Ella’s death. The lawyer, the physician and the air quality specialist who worked with Ella’s family at the inquest will discuss the implications of the case from their difference perspectives.
