IAQM AGM 2019: Air quality – Past, present and future

FreeThe IAQM 2019 AGM will be followed by a discussion meeting looking at the past, present and future challenges within the air quality sector.
Imagine a future. NO2 concentrations have fallen rapidly, by 2024 only a few exceedances will be present in London – problem solved?
History tells us that when one pollutant is well controlled, another pollutant rears its head. We know that over the next few years the focus will increasingly move from NO2 to PM2.5 and the need to meet the WHO guideline. However, maybe next year (or so) the WHO guidelines will change, and be reduced not increased. The emphasis of the health burden may change from mortality to the huge economic cost of dementia caused by air pollution.
Looking further into the future, will ultrafine particles be the key pollutant that keeps us busy? This discussion meeting aims to learn from the lessons of history and to look at some future air quality management issues.
