IAQM responds to Defra’s environmental targets consultation
Last week Defra closed its consultation on the long-term environmental targets set out as part of the Environment Act 2021.
The Environment Act requires that the government set at least one long-term target in each of the following areas: air quality, water, biodiversity, and resource efficiency and waste reduction. It also requires targets to be set for fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and species abundance.
The draft targets opened for consultation in March and the deadline for consultation responses was extended following the publication of final evidence reports.
The IAQM has responded to the consultation following invitations for member comments, responding specifically to the proposed PM2.5 target.
