IAQM partners with UK100 to support their Clean Air Network

UK100 is creating a Clean Air Network for combined/strategic authorities, enabling greater knowledge sharing of best practice around clean air. The network will meet quarterly and bring in academic, third sector and business experts on clean air. The key objectives of the network are:

  • Clean air strategies are embedded into the core plans and priorities of strategic authorities,
  • Strategic authorities make collective demands for stronger national action on air pollution, for example more devolved powers and increased funding.

The IAQM is delighted to be partnering with UK100 to support their work and connect combined/strategic authorities with the wider air quality community. A representative from the IAQM will be attending their conference on July 13th, Breathing Life: A Decade of Local Air Quality Ambition.

As part of the project UK100 will produce a report which will act as a guiding framework for the Clean Air Network and serve as the central reference point for network activity through 2026–2027, supporting combined and strategic authorities to translate ambition into delivery, identify barriers, and share practical approaches to embedding clean air into transport, planning, growth and health systems.

This report will cover:

  • Powers and partnerships – Clarify what combined authorities can actually do on clean air, cutting through confusion about roles and enabling coordinated action across levels of government.
  • Mainstreaming clean air – Show how to embed air quality into core systems like transport planning, procurement and spatial development, demonstrating co-benefits including reduced congestion, cost savings and economic growth.
  • Regional governance models – Identify how combined authorities can lead effectively while working with constituent councils, balancing regional coordination with local autonomy.

The report will be launched at UK100’s Breathing Life conference in London on 13th July 2026.

They are looking for business sponsors. Those interested should get in touch with alice.kubanski@uk100.org.
