IAQM launches Climate Change Working Group
In the lead up to COP26 the IAQM launched a survey collecting member views on the impact of climate change policy on air quality professionals. One of the key findings from the survey was that an overwhelming majority (92%) of members think that the IAQM should provide more support in the area of climate change and air quality.
In response to these findings, the IAQM has launched a Climate Change Working Group, which will explore how air quality and climate change issues can be more closely integrated and how members can be supported and engaged in this topic. Initially the working group will be focussed on being a proactive consultee for those producing guidance in this area; it is vital that air quality issues are taken into account when guidance on climate change is produced and the IAQM is committed to providing expertise in this area.
The working group will also aim to provide relevant thought-leadership in how net zero and climate policy will affect air quality and vice versa, and highlight areas of conflict and uncertainty that currently exist that should be taken into account.
If you are aware of any guidance currently being produced in this area, please do get in touch.
Working group members: Chris Rush, Nicole Asante, Bernard Fisher, Kieran Laxen, Honor Puciato, Tom Reade, Xiangyu Sheng
