IAQM announces launch of Early Careers Interest Group

early_career_network The Early Career Interest Group is aimed at IAQM Associate Members and Members in the early stages of their careers. The Group will provide a forum for these members to learn, present and network to form professional connections, in a friendly, supportive and accessible environment. We will be holding our launch event in spring 2017. This will be the first of regular mid-afternoon to evening events, where early-career professionals gain experience in presenting to a modestly-sized and unintimidating audience. Typically these events will include:
  1. A guest presentation from a senior IAQM Member or Fellow updating our early-career members on new developments in air quality assessment practice in a personal and historical context. The IAQM is fortunate to have amongst its membership individuals who were involved in the major landmark changes of the last 40 or so years.  These series of talks will aim to give historical narrative and contemporary context to the work of practitioners.
  2. Short presentations from IAQM early-career professionals, giving an opportunity to inform others about their work and to practice presentation skills.
  3. Technical questions and answers, and participation in discussions on wider IAQM Early Careers Interest Group issues and needs.  This is our chance to tell you what the IAQM is up to and to hear about your needs and desires for the Institute.
  4. Finally, a social part, usually in a local pub.
Attendance will count as CPD time and is likely to provide useful evidence of development when applying to upgrade from Associate to Member. The first meeting will be held in London, but we will be looking to take this on tour around the country. More details of the first event will follow shortly. In the meantime, we are looking for volunteers to be involved in organising the Group and assisting with various tasks.  If you want to volunteer, please contact Emma.
